Describe a friend's home you visited but you don't want to live there

You should say:

• Where the home is

• Who this person is

• What kind of home it is

• And explain why you don't want to live there

You will have to talk about the topic for 1 to 2 minutes. You have 1 minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

I’d like to talk about the home of my former college roommate Luna, a century-old terraced house tucked away in Guangzhou’s historic Xiguan district, just a stone’s throw from Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street. Luna’s family has occupied the two-storey property for three generations; it features intricate wooden lattice windows and a tiny internal courtyard, which feels like a little time capsule of 1920s Guangzhou. That said, I’d never want to move there, primarily because of the abysmal natural lighting. Since the house is sandwiched between two much taller adjacent commercial buildings, direct sunlight barely reaches the ground floor, so even on bright summer afternoons, the living room feels dim and gloomy. The second dealbreaker is the non-stop noise. The thin brick walls have terrible sound insulation, so you can clearly hear street vendors hawking traditional snacks, groups of tourists laughing, and even the clatter of plastic stools from the food stalls downstairs from 7 a.m. till midnight. As someone who needs absolute quiet to work and sleep, that constant commotion would drive me up the wall. While I adore the nostalgic charm of the neighbourhood, it’s just not compatible with my lifestyle needs for a calm, sunlit home.
