Describe A lesson impressed you
Describe a lesson that impressed you a lot.
You should say:
• What the lesson was about
• Where you took the lesson
• What you did in the lesson
• And explain why it impressed you a lot
You will have to talk about the topic for 1 to 2 minutes. You have 1 minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.
One lesson that’s really stuck with me for years was a field-based environmental science seminar I took in my second year of university, held at a protected riparian zone on the city’s western outskirts. The lesson focused on assessing anthropogenic impacts on local freshwater ecosystems, rather than just covering textbook theories. Instead of sitting in a lecture hall scribbling notes, we split into small groups to collect water samples, measure pH and dissolved oxygen levels, and interview a local conservation ranger about agricultural runoff from nearby farms. I was tasked with sifting through stream bed sediment to spot small aquatic invertebrates, which was messier but far more engaging than any indoor lab task I’d done before. What made it so impressive was that it moved way beyond rote memorization. I’d always conceptualized water pollution as something distant and abstract, but when we detected tiny microplastic fragments even in the supposedly pristine upstream section, it really drove home how pervasive human influence is. The instructor also emphasized that small, consistent lifestyle swaps can cumulatively mitigate environmental harm, which actually shifted my daily habits entirely. It wasn’t just an ecology lesson; it was a tangible, actionable reminder of our collective responsibility.
