Describe a noisy place you have been to.

You should say:

• What it is

• When you went there

• What you did there

• And explain why you feel it is a noisy place

You will have to talk about the topic for 1 to 2 minutes. You have 1 minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

Right, so one of the most deafening places I’ve ever visited is the Temple Street Night Market in Hong Kong, a bustling open-air bazaar crammed with street food stalls, souvenir vendors, and street performers. I went there last summer with two college friends during a 5-day backpacking trip around the Greater Bay Area. We spent nearly three hours wandering its cramped lanes: we sampled crispy egg waffles and spicy curried fish balls from rickety street carts, haggled over vintage vinyl records at a second-hand stall, and even paused to watch a Cantonese opera busker performing on a makeshift wooden stage. The noise was utterly overwhelming, coming from every direction: vendors yelling promotional slogans in Cantonese and Mandarin to lure passersby, the clatter of woks and sizzle of hot oil from food stalls, the high-pitched clang of gongs and cymbals from the opera performance, and the constant murmur of thousands of tourists chattering in dozens of languages. It was so loud that we had to lean in and shout just to hear each other, even when standing shoulder to shoulder.
