Describe A person you know who loves to grow plants
Describe a person you know who loves to grow plants (e.g. vegetables/fruits/flowers etc.).
You should say:
• Who this person is
• What he/she grows
• Where he/she grows them
• And explain why he/she enjoys this activity
You will have to talk about the topic for 1 to 2 minutes. You have 1 minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.
I’d like to talk about my maternal aunt, Linda, a retired primary school teacher who’s utterly captivated by growing plants—so much so that her home feels like a lush, tiny urban oasis. She grows a vibrant mix of edible and ornamental varieties: heirloom cherry tomatoes, aromatic basil and rosemary, climbing jasmine that fills her balcony with a sweet scent in summer, and dozens of plump succulents. Most of her plants sit on her south-facing balcony, with a small raised bed on her ground-floor patio for the tomato vines, and even a few windowsill planters in her kitchen for the herbs she uses daily in cooking. She says the hobby is deeply therapeutic, as it helps her unwind from decades of teaching-related stress that used to leave her feeling constantly drained. Plus, she loves the sense of self-sufficiency that comes with growing her own organic produce, and she often gives away surplus tomatoes and herbs to neighbours, which has helped her build warm community bonds. Honestly, her passion is really infectious—she’s even got me trying to grow mint on my own windowsill now.
