Describe a plan that you had to change recently.

You should say:

• When this happened

• What made you change the plan

• What the new plan was

• And how you felt about the change

You will have to talk about the topic for 1 to 2 minutes. You have 1 minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

A plan I had to alter recently was a 3-day backcountry camping trip to Moganshan, which I’d arranged with two college roommates to mark our first graduation anniversary. This happened just over a week ago, right before we were due to set off last Friday. The change was totally unforeseen: my internship supervisor informed me I’d been assigned to assist with a high-profile outdoor brand’s product launch, which was mandatory for all marketing interns vying for a full-time position. The event clashed exactly with our camping dates, so I couldn’t opt out. We quickly rescheduled the trip to a day-long picnic at a suburban wetland park this Saturday: we ordered artisanal sandwiches and cold brew coffee, and packed frisbees and board games instead of hiking gear. I also promised to treat them to a premium island camping trip in Zhoushan once my probation review ends next month. Initially I was gutted, but it turned out to be a silver lining — the launch gave me invaluable hands-on experience, and the relaxed picnic let us catch up far more deeply than a tiring hike would have. It really taught me to stay flexible when prioritising competing commitments.
