Describe A special cake

♻️ Retained🏃 Experiences

Describe an occasion when you had a special cake.

You should say:

• When this happened

• Where this happened

• Who gave you the cake

• And explain why it was a special cake

You will have to talk about the topic for 1 to 2 minutes. You have 1 minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

I’d like to talk about a special bespoke matcha layer cake I received last March, right after I won first place in a national university public speaking competition held at my campus auditorium. The cake was a surprise gift from my mom, who’d travelled three hours from her work city just to attend the final round without telling me beforehand. There are two core reasons why this cake was so extraordinary. First, it was meticulously crafted by a renowned local patissier my mom had contacted weeks in advance: the top was decorated with a tiny fondant figurine of me delivering a speech, and the layers were stuffed with red bean paste, my all-time favourite filling that I’d rambled about constantly during my stressful preparation period. Second, it held such profound sentimental value — every bite felt like a tangible recognition of all the late nights I’d spent practising, and of my mom’s quiet, unwavering support. By the time I finished my first slice, I was already tearing up; it’s hands down the most memorable cake I’ve ever had.
