Describe a story/book with animals in it.

You should say:

• What animals are in it

• What the story/book is about

• Why you read the story/book

• And explain what you think of this story/book

You will have to talk about the topic for 1 to 2 minutes. You have 1 minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

I’d like to talk about *Charlotte’s Web*, a beloved children’s novella penned by E.B. White, brimming with vivid animal characters and heartfelt themes. The main animals in the story are Wilbur, a naive young pig, Charlotte, a sharp-witted grey spider, plus a sassy rat named Templeton and a flock of geese, all living on a quaint rural farm. The plot centres on Wilbur, who grows distraught when he learns he’ll be slaughtered for Christmas dinner. Charlotte vows to save him by weaving glowing praise phrases like “Some Pig” into her web above his pen, which draws flocks of curious visitors and ultimately spares his life. By the end, Charlotte passes away after laying her eggs, and Wilbur devotes himself to nurturing her offspring. I picked up the book two years ago when I was volunteering as a storyteller for underprivileged rural children, hunting for tales that are both engaging and thought-provoking. What impresses me most is that it’s far from a shallow children’s read — it explores profound themes of selfless friendship and mortality with gentle, lyrical prose, resonating deeply with readers of all ages.
