Describe A time when you used imagination
Describe a time when you used your imagination
You should say:
• When this happened
• Why you needed to use imagination
• How you used your imagination
• And explain how you felt about this experience
You will have to talk about the topic for 1 to 2 minutes. You have 1 minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.
A particularly memorable occasion when I leveraged my imagination was during my final year of university, when I was tasked with designing a low-cost community playground for a low-income neighbourhood as part of my architecture course. The project brief strictly limited our budget to under £1,000, so I couldn’t rely on standard pre-made play equipment, which pushed me to think outside the box. I envisioned repurposing discarded wooden pallets as climbing frames, old tire stacks as an obstacle course, and painted wall murals that transformed blank concrete surfaces into interactive fairy tale landscapes for young children. I also added a small edible herb garden, which I framed as a ‘magic potion garden’ to spark kids’ curiosity about nature. When I presented the proposal, the judges were incredibly impressed, and my design was selected for construction. I felt immensely proud, as this experience showed me that imagination can turn practical constraints into opportunities to create something meaningful for underserved communities.
