Describe An ambition that you have had for a long time

One long-held ambition of mine is to open a small, community-focused second-hand English bookstore in my neighbourhood, a goal I’ve nurtured for nearly eight years since I was in senior high school. To work towards this, I’ve been curating a personal collection of over 320 English titles spanning literary fiction, popular science and biography, and I work 12 hours a week at a local independent bookshop to build up practical know-how in inventory management and customer engagement. I also run a tiny online book club for local English learners to gauge what kinds of books are most in demand. I anticipate achieving this goal in roughly two years’ time, once I complete my Master’s degree in Cultural Management and save up enough seed funding for initial rent and shop fitting. There’s a small vacant shop unit near my apartment complex due to become available then, which fits my budget perfectly. This ambition first stemmed from my high school experience, when I struggled to find affordable English-language novels for my extensive reading project — most imported books were prohibitively expensive back then. I hope the shop can remove that barrier for local learners, and create a cozy, inclusive niche for book lovers to connect. It’s far less about profit than building a warm community space, which makes every step feel worthwhile.
