Describe An important decision you made in life
Describe an important decision you made in life.
You should say:
• What the decision was
• Why you made this decision
• How you made this decision
• And explain why this decision was important
You will have to talk about the topic for 1 to 2 minutes. You have 1 minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.
One of the most pivotal decisions I’ve ever made was quitting my stable, well-compensated UI design role at a leading Chinese tech firm to pursue a Master’s in Interaction Design in the UK two years ago. First off, I arrived at this choice because my career had hit a stagnant patch: I was churning out repetitive, profit-driven design drafts with zero room for creative exploration, and I’d long been fascinated by the human-centric side of design that my domestic role never let me delve into. To make a well-informed call, I spent three months curating research on course curricula, connecting with alumni who’d studied similar programmes, and saving up 12 months of living costs to avoid financial strain. I also had several candid conversations with my parents, who eventually backed my plan after hearing my detailed career roadmap. This decision was transformative: it equipped me with cutting-edge design methodologies, expanded my global professional network, and landed me a role at a top sustainable design studio back in China. Most importantly, it taught me to step out of my comfort zone rather than settle for a safe but unfulfilling path.
