Describe an occasion when many people were smiling.

You should say:

• When it happened

• Who you were with

• What happened

• And explain why many people were smiling

You will have to talk about the topic for 1 to 2 minutes. You have 1 minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

The most memorable occasion where crowds of people were smiling was the spring tea party for senior citizens in my community last April, which I attended as a volunteer with three classmates from my university’s volunteer club. First, we arranged a performance session of nostalgic Mandopop hits from the 1970s. A 78-year-old grandmother volunteered to sing a famous Teresa Teng song, but she forgot the lyrics halfway through. Instead of feeling embarrassed, she shrugged playfully and offered to dance a ballroom segment with her husband to make up for it, sparking thunderous applause and spontaneous laughter across the room. Later, we ran a musical chairs game, and the winner was an 82-year-old grandfather who jumped up and down holding his prize of osmanthus cakes like an excited young boy. People were smiling nonstop that day because the atmosphere was incredibly relaxed and heartwarming; everyone was able to let their guard down and enjoy genuine, lighthearted fun without any awkwardness or pressure.
