Describe your favourite childhood friend.

You should say:

• Who he/she is

• Where you met each other

• What you often did together

• And explain what made you like him/her

You will have to talk about the topic for 1 to 2 minutes. You have 1 minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

My favourite childhood friend was Mia, a warm, bubbly girl who lived two doors down from me in the old residential complex where I spent my primary school years. We first crossed paths when I was 7, at the community playground where I’d been lingering awkwardly, too shy to approach the other kids after my family had just moved to the neighbourhood. For the next six years, we were practically inseparable: after school, we’d clamber up the gnarled oak tree at the edge of the complex to hoard acorns for our "secret treasure collection", build rickety forts out of discarded cardboard boxes in her backyard, and ramble about silly made-up stories until our parents yelled for us to come in for dinner. What made her such a beloved friend was her unwavering empathy and her knack for turning mundane, ordinary moments into tiny adventures. I still vividly recall the time I lost the tiny silver locket my grandma had gifted me for my 8th birthday; she spent three whole hours combing through every flower bed and bush in the park with me, even though she had a piano recital to prepare for the next day. We don’t catch up super often now that her family emigrated to Canada when we were 13, but those carefree, sunlit afternoons with Mia still stand out as the coziest, most joyful part of my early childhood.
